MapCalc Download Site (both Learner and Academic systems)
MapCalc
Learner is a grid-based map analysis software package
specifically designed to help students learn the rich
range of analysis operations available in the raster domain. The educational version is constrained to a 100 column by 100 row
configuration and a Latitude/Longitude WGS84 coordinate system. The 100x100 configuration is ideal for
learning environments as performance for most operations and displays is nearly
instantaneous. All of the MapCalc data
sets used in the “hands-on” exercises are supported in this version.

MapCalcLearner
— click on this link and select Open/Run to
download MapCalc Learner and basic datasets. Follow the onscreen installation
instructions. It is recommended that you
accept the default specifications as the exercise write-ups assume this
installation location. Use Serial Number 1374MS2-0F5050-V and Release Code 6EE3-59C8-EA4B-EFB7 to register the educational MapCalc Learner version beyond the 14-day
trial period.
Note: under Windows 7 and 8, the request to register will continue to
appear but once registered the software will not expire. Simply click the “Register
Later” button to access MapCalc.

MapCalc
Academic is a grid-based map analysis software package
specifically designed for independent research projects requiring larger map analysis windows than MapCalc Learner’s 100 column by 100 row configuration and user-defined grid-based
map sets. Like the Learner system,
MapCalc Academic uses a Latitude/Longitude WGS84 coordinate system and all of
the MapCalc data sets used in the “hands-on” exercises are supported.
To develop your own project data
sets they need to be constructed in full GIS, such as ArcGIS, forming a map
stack of grid layers with common geo-registration and consistent column/row
configuration. To setup a MapCalc
configuration, execute the MapCalc Academic program and 1) select Create a New Map Set, 2) specify a Map Set Name and Grid Cell Length, 3) choose Create
Empty Map Set, 4)
specify the Latitude and Longitude of the lower-left corner of
the project area and the number of Rows
and Columns. Use the Map
Analysis buttonŕImport to import the grid map layers one
at a time as ArcGIS grid map layers in exported in Esri .ACS format (or Surfer
.grd or as a Bare ASCII row major matrix).
